LAUNCH OF GWYL Y FELIN 2009
Word of welcome by Councillor Sian Gwenllian

On Friday (June 26) we will be launching FELINHELI FESTIVAL 2009 at an event at Y Felin Sgwrsio, Y Felinheli between 10 and 12. A WARM WELCOME IS EXTENEDED TO YOU ALL. Meinir Gwilym, Wedi 7, will be joining us.

An exhibition of old photos and memorabillia from past carnivals will be unveiled. It will include a crowna and dresses from the days when the Festival was a Carnival and a Queen was chosen each year. There will be a coffee morning with stalls.

The Festival starts down on the Beach in the evening with the STOMP. This year for the first time Stwr wrth y Dwr is being held - an opportunity for the children and people of the village to show off their talent. uizz, fashion shoe, clown, wine tasting, noson lawen, service, congregational singing, 10 K race, triathlon - and so on - the list os long. Study the Programme for the full details. The week will end with the Carnival Parade down to the Beach on July 4 followed by an aftrenoon of entertainment and Bryn Fon a'r Band. It's looking good! On behalf of the village, may I sincerely thank the Committee for all their hard work in arranging and staging this year's Festival.

New Chairman
Islwyn Owen (Bonc) was elected chairman of the Festival at the AGM held in January.(For some reason, this was much later than usual- hence everything else is running a little behind schedule)
Islwyn has been Vice Chairman for many years and a committee member for many years before that. I’m sure most people in the village would agree that the festival could not survive without the hard work put in by the Bonc family.

Former Chairman stands down
Dafydd Mansel Thomas stated in the AGM that he did not wish his name to go forward in the election of chairman. Like Bonc, Mansel has been involved with the carnival/festival committee for many years. The village is deeply indebted to Dafydd for his leadership and vision in transforming a modest carnival into one of the largest and most successful festivals in North Wales. Dafydd built a team of workers to help him to fulfil his vision and it is to his credit that the team he led means that Felinheli Festival has gone from strength to strength over the last 12 years or so.

We are hopeful that the many contacts Dafydd built up over the years will remain faithful to Dafydd’s legacy and will continue to support the festival financially and socially even though Dafydd Mansel has stepped down as chairman.
